After 2 successful years running what was known as the SACS 7s Quadrangular, featuring the top 4 schools in the Southern Suburbs, UR7s SA has expanded three-fold. The ages groups have remained as the U14, U15, U16 but each division now boasts 12 teams
The whole premise of the SACS 7s was to allow the young players to showcase their skills, flair and speed on the field while creating an exciting and festival-like atmosphere off it. These tournaments were a major success and were one of the highlights of the schoolboy rugby season for players and spectators alike.
UR7s SA will be using the success of these tournaments as a springboard to create an even bigger and better event come the 2nd September. There are a number of attractions of the field to keep the spectators entertained, including a farmers market, food stalls and an “Old Boys” Beer tent. What matters most is the children getting to play the sport that is loved by so many worldwide. It gives the children a chance to play Sevens in a competitive yet fun tournament and start their journey to becoming a Blitzbok.
Development and continued promotion of the sport is key and at the heart of what is trying to be achieved. That is why UR7s SA will be running development clinics before the tournament and All –Star clinics after, with great setups such as the Vusa Academy, Connect Academy and the Atlantic Rugby Academy.
From a very humble beginning where exciting and enjoyable schoolboy Sevens was the flavor of the day, UR7s SA aims to create the most anticipated school rugby of the year. This tournament will be a first of it’s kind in South Africa and will be the start of upliftment and focus of the schoolboy Sevens game.
Make sure you save the date and make your way down to Hamilton’s Rugby Club come the 2nd Sept. The action kicks off at 9am (CAT).
