Husk All-Stars make their move in star studded Round 3 of Beach Rugby Series

Week 3 proved to be undoubtedly the best week of series so far with all the teams stepping it up a level and then some.

A few of the squads were not at the full compliment which showed in their results but the action was no less relenting.

The Caprice Cobras lost their first match of the campaign as the Switch Players pipped them right at the end. It was a very tight game where both teams showed their quality throughout. The Players featured two Rugby World Cup winners this week in Percy Montgomery and Stu Abbott and there skills on grass paid off on sand.

The Husk All-Stars coming off 3 consecutive draws decided they were ready to kick things into another gear and completely outplayed the Inbetweeners scoring 7 tries to nil in the process.

Two members of the Husk All-Star teams cracked the nod for the team of the week and rightly so as they guided their team to 2 convincing victories.

CB Legends continued their winning ways by beating a skilful Flying Fish by 5 tries in clinical fashion, the Legends continue to go about their business and look to be the stars of the sand so far this season.

Most of the Legends tries coming from simple drawing and passing. Next up was the Switch Members who were keen to make a stance, but came up against strong opposition in the Caprice Cobras looking to avenge their earlier loss. The Cobras winning 3 - 0 but that was not a true reflection of closeness of the game.

The only draw of the day was one of the most exciting games where a ding dong battle between the Switch Players and Caprice Staff ended in a stalemate - 2 all.

As the sun was going down on a picturesque Camps Bay setting the Husk All-Stars had their final game against the Flying Fish, a great game to round off the week with the All-Stars taking it 5 to 2.

The Fish continue to search for their first win but each produce stronger performances, they will be one to watch out for on finals day.

Currently CB Legends, Switch Players, Caprice Cobras and Husk All-Stars are on a collision course for the cup on finals day but with 2 rounds still to be played it could all change again.

Team of the Week and Awards

Rashiq Essop (Husk All-Stars)

3 weeks into the series, the man commonly referred to as LUssie has finally found his beach legs. A solid all round performance all around coupled with 3 tries got him into the team of the week.

Brett Sparg (Switch Players)

A well conditioned man on and off the beach, Spargy has been touch for years and this week his experience showed. Perfectly timed cut out passes a general understanding for the game goes a long way on the beach.

Robbie Davis (Caprice Staff)

One of the younger players on the series Robbie showed his skills with lots off the ball movement and well opportunities that he created. If you give his man a ball things get exciting.

Rocco Talli (Flying Fish)

El Capitano and the talisman of the team he lead from the front. Brought great momentum to the game and pushed Flying Fish forward.

Ikraam Essop (Husk All-Stars)

The stand out player of the day with 5 tries and 3 assists, Ikraam - better known as Boetie - did it all on the beach today. His full array of skills were showcased today whether it was a one-on-one step or a skip pass, he was on fired. Such a pleasure to watch and player to watch on finals day.
